Weeping Yew - Taxus baccata 'Dovastoniana': [ 77 ]
Also known as the Holy Thorn. The original tree is supposed to have grown from Joseph of Arimathea’s stave. He arrived in AD 63 and it is claimed that he thrust it into the ground on Wearyall Hill above Glastonbury in Somserset. It sprouted into a tree which ‘Miraculously’ bloomed near Christmas as well as normally in the Spring. This specimen was taken as a cutting from one of the original trees at Glastonbury and planted in 2022 to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. This tree has flowered every Christmas since planting as well as in May of each year.
