This oak has stalked leaves and stalkless (sessile) acorns and keeps it’s dried leaves over winter. It can grow to over 20m tall and is often found in hilly places. Male flowers are catkins and female flowers resemble red flower buds. Acorns start out green and turn brown and are eaten by jays, squirrels and badgers.
